When I began to collect vintage cranberry glass, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
A world of all types of beautiful glass with histories and sentiments beyond anything I could have imagined.
I allowed myself a couple pieces of this wonderful vintage “Puff Rose” glass pattern in a type of glass known as “Goofus Glass”.
Goofus glass was America’s very first carnival glass.
This powder jar, also known as a vanity jar, caught my eye many times and I finally gave in and purchased it. It was made about 100 years ago.
Not a whole lot is written about the history of goofus glass. Even it’s name has several theories behind it. Such as, the paint chipping off unexpectedly (a goof), or someone calling it a “goofy” looking glass and the name sticking.
If you would like to read more about goofus glass, here is an interesting link.
I hope you are having a beautiful start to this brand new year. And remember to be easy on yourself, give yourself a hug. You my dear, are your own best friend.
