Untold Stories

Today I tried my hand at creating a distressed book.  (I have been admiring the work of others for a while now.)

(click each picture to enlarge)

I labeled mine "Untold  Stories".

The first thing I did was find an old hard cover book that I was willing to part with.

Next I tore off the front and back covers of the book.

Once the covers were off, I had fun scrunching up the first page of the book to help create the distressed look I was after.

Playing with my distressed ink pads, I then went to town rubbing them all over the book.

I placed a strip of my favorite Tim Holtz tissue tape along the spine of my book.

And picked out a sticker to use.  (The first step is the dream)

I then used a large ink stamp right on the first page.

I tied my hand stamped tattered ribbon onto the book with a bow.

Added my "Untold Stories" tag I had just created using tiny pink shells and iridescent glitter.

And finished it off by adding a beautiful vintage rhinestone brooch to the bow.

I began with a book that I was "willing to part with".  But in the end, this book became a bedside treasure and perfectly readable.

They are perfect to share on this Pink Saturday .

I did not add any "special effects" to these photos .

They are untouched.

(No photoshopped effects)

I adore the way paper and lace look together.

Above (if you look hard) you can see the handmade ribbon I made for it. (the one with the  tattered edges)

"Blogging in Pink" makes me happy.

Lemonicious

We are fortunate to have a small citrus orchard in our backyard.

lemon1

There are oranges, grapefruits, kumquats, and a ton of lemons!

This is the time of year I love.

lemon7

When I need a lemon or lemon juice, I just walk out back and pick one!

lemon4

How cool is that?

lemon3

Life gives us tons of lemons.

lemon2

So many we must share them with family and friends.

lemon8

We gave some to my mother and she gave us back some delicious lemon bars.

lemon9

They were the best lemon bars I have ever had.  Baked with love and fresh lemons.
Thanks Mom!

I will have to get the recipe from her and share it with you.

I do hope your week is going well and do something nice for yourself today!

You deserve it.

Precious Sparkles

Yesterday I tried my hand at decorating another paper cone.

This time I had to use pink!

And some glass glitter I had been dying to use.

So I began with a piece of beautiful patterned scrapbook paper. (There are so many beautiful ones to choose from)

Rolled it into a cone.

Glued  silver glass glitter around the top edge.  (This was the funnest part for me)

I ran a border of beautiful patterned tape (by Tim Holtz) around the cone below my sparkles

I created a distressed tag and then had to decide what I wanted on the tag.

I chose the word "Precious".  Which seemed perfect.

I played with some more glass glitter on the tag.

I glued a distressed paper rose at the top along with some ribbons and decorated the front with a picture of vintage handwriting.

I am surprised at how much I enjoy making these little creations and I do hope you enjoy seeing them.

Medicine for the Soul

Medicine for the soul.  ~ Inscription over the door of the Library at Thebes

"There is no frigate like a book

To take us lands away,

Nor any coursers like a page

 Of prancing poetry.

This traverse may the poorest take

Without oppress of toll;

How frugal is the chariot

That bears a human soul!"
