In order to make the essential oil, they must take the flowering tops of the lavender plants and steam-distill them until the essential oil is separated out from the plant.
I use eight to ten drops of this oil to create a relaxing lavender bath.
Or I’ll put a few drops on a cotton ball and tuck it into my pillowcase for the night.
Another way I have used this oil is by mixing about five drops with two cups of warm water. Then I soak up a washcloth in the mixture and wring it out.
Laying down, I place the scented washcloth over my closed eyes. I relax by breathing deep and letting the scent of lavender take me away to fields below.

That sounds heavenly, Mo. Have a splendid weekend! La
That colbolt blue is very pretty. I just planted some lavendar bushes this morning on the small hillside in the back yard. Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like a lot of work to make the oil.......Julian
Michele - I have a few rows of lavendar planted in the parking strip (between the sidewalk and street) and I am now stocking up on the dried blossoms to carry me through the winter! Your displays are lovely!
