Story Of The Moss Rose

A very pretty story is told of the origin of the "Moss Rose" from  E. M.  Lucas which dates back to the year 1900. 

 It is told that the angel who cared for the flowers, sprinkling them with heavenly dews, slept beneath a Rose tree one day. 

Upon awakening he whispered to the Rose: "For the sweet shade thou hast given me, ask what thou wilt, 'tis granted thee." 
Then the spirit of the Rose answered, "Adorn me with a new charm." 
The angel thought a moment, then threw a veil of moss over the Rose, thus adding a new grace, and behold the crowning glory of the beautiful Moss Rose.
