Christmas Tree of Roses

Since we have not had a deep freeze here in the desert yet,

My rose garden is filled with roses in December.

So, I have adorned our christmas tree this year in fresh roses!

They are perfect with the roses.

May the blessings of our Savior be upon each of you.

And may peace fill your hearts.

This is my Christmas wish for you.

Merry Christmas!

Petals from Heaven

A professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty glass mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a jar of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open spaces between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar and of course the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous yes.
The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and then proceeded to pour the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the grains of sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things

-- your family,

your partner,

your health,

your children,

your friends,

your favorite passions

-- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

"The pebbles are the other things that matter, like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else -- the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. Play another 18.

"There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

Things My Mother Taught Me . . .

Today is my mother's birthday, so. . . " Happy Birthday Mom "!

Here are a few shots of my " memory board that I keep close to me when I am sleeping.

( It hangs next to my bed.)

As I look at my favorite memories one thing is very clear, my mother taught me life's most precious gifts . . .

She taught me the smell of gardenias and how when I smell one now, I think of her and her signature perfume throughout my childhood.

She taught me that without faith, life is an empty shell.

She taught me that the Saints are there to intercede for me anytime I pray and to acknowledge their presence in my life.

She introduced me to " Our Holy Mother Mary " and thus began my devotion to " Our Lady ".

She taught me that it is right to not judge people by the color of their skin or the culture they are from, even though your friends disagree.

She taught me to be proud of my polish ancestry and to celebrate it and to pass it on to the next generation.

She taught me that in my life, family is the most important treasure.

She taught me that it is the small thoughtful things in life that fill my life with meaning and contentment.

She taught me that marriage is a sacred bond and should be forever cherished.

She taught me that by taking care of my teeth throughout my life will allow me to keep them.

And  that things I did when I was a teenager will eventually catch up to me when I am forty.

She taught me to protect myself from the sun.

She taught me long ago her mantra, " Everything in moderation! ".

And to travel and to experience new cultures, places, and ideas.

She taught me good taste and to add that " little extra touch " that makes all the difference.

She taught me to be strong and to stand up for what I believe in.

She taught me the softness that comes with a mother's hand checking for a fever on your forehead.

And that someone does come comfort you in the middle of a bad dream when you are three years old.

And that no matter how old you get to be, she will be there to make you feel like a child again like a magic moment in time.

She taught me to give thanks to God for all the blessings in my life.

And that sometimes, " Things are just meant to be. "

She also taught me that our birthdays and the holidays are not " just another day ", but extremely special days we can look forward to all year through.

I love you mom.

Happy Birthday!

Roses are Blooming again!

It is the end of November and that means my rose garden is coming back to life after the brutal summer heat.

I was thrilled to be able to use them on my Thanksgiving table.

Here are a few camera shots of the table as I was getting things ready for our big feast.

(I always make sure to drop a few rose petals about . . .)

This year I filled a couple of vintage cranberry glasses with fresh pink roses;

And topped the table setting off with my two antique candle holders adorned in chandelier crystals.

We have been extremely blessed this year and our depth of gratitude as always was pointed toward the heavens.

I must say I have become very attached to this little dog.

Every Sunday I give him a bath. . . (to keep him white).

These pictures were taken today -

After his "Fluff-n-Fold".

    Kiss of Peace

I have had this little packet of bath salts for quite awhile now.

I do not think I will ever open it.

I think it is one of the most creative product names I have seen.

Not to mention the beautiful artwork on the packaging.

I suppose it is because I do not need to open it to get a sense of peace.

Instead, I keep it as a decoration and it reminds me always, that rose petals from Heaven and kisses of peace are only a thought away.

    Infinite Love

This beautiful quote by Rumi is one I found recently and engraved it on a flash drive for my son to remind him of what is important in life . . .

It is also similar to a phrase in The Perks of Being a Wallflower when Charlie says, "And in that moment, I swear we were infinite."  (which is quickly becoming another favorite quote of mine)

Since I am a huge Ezra Miller fan (perhaps because he reminds me of my son), I have to say the movie was wonderful and it is not suprising Ezra Miller was awarded this year's Hollywood Spotlight Award for exciting new talents!

    Enjoy!

    Among the Ashes . . .

We have all seen the horrific pictures and television coverage of Hurricane Sandy's aftermath.

Our prayers are heard by Heaven as those whose lives have been ravaged remain in our thoughts.

This blog is called "Rose Petals from Heaven" and from the first day I have devoted it to our Heavenly Mother and Saint Therese of the Roses.

    During these trying times it is hard and sometimes impossible to find the rose petals that fall gently upon us as we endure unspeakable tragedy;

Even though Heaven is constantly reminding us that faith endures even through the fires of hell.
